Visit to Chartreuse Cellars and Musée de la Grande Chartreuse!
Have you ever wondered how the Carthusian monks created the intoxicating green Chartreuse? Did you know the drink is distilled with Protected content herbs, flowers and plants known only to the monks and the recipe has been safeguarded for centuries?
Come join us in discovering how this legendary liquor is produced in the Chartreuse cellars in Voiron.
Post the distillery visit, we will break for lunch at a restaurant in Voiron and then, visit the Musee de la Grande Chartreuse to learn more about the life of the Carthusian monks and the legends of the region. This is a hidden gem located in the Chartreuse national park and housed in a 12th century monastery.
We plan to car-pool so if you are driving - please tell us how many folks can share the ride with you. We will share the fuel expense.
Here's the plan:
9:30 am -Protected content
10 am to 12 noon - Visit the Chartreuse cellars in Voiron (Free tour in French.. translation in English if we are many...followed by tasting!)
12 noon to 1 pm - Break for lunch in Voiron (Restaurant TBD)
1 pm to 1:30 pm - Drive to the Museum of Grande Chartreuse (25kms away)
1: 30 pm to 3:30 pm - Discover the museum (audio guide in English available; ticket - 8.50 euros)
3:30 pm - Head back to Grenoble
