Helping kids experiencing homelessness, looking for volunteers!
(only for residents in California and preferably with a decent level in Spanish)
Join us to learn more about School on Wheels and their volunteering work to support students experiencing homelessness with online tutoring sessions.
Since Protected content , the mission of School on Wheels (SoW) has been to enhance educational opportunities for children who are experiencing homelessness from kindergarten through twelfth grade. Our goal is to shrink the gaps in their learning.
These days we are particularly in need of bilingual tutors for Hispanic kids in Southern California. The invitation is open however to anyone interested to volunteer also at our regular tutoring program in English. Note: for security screening purposes the volunteers should be residents in California.
The talk will be presented by Stephanie Swenseid, Regional Coordinator at SoW. Stephanie first joined School on Wheels as a volunteer tutor. As her passion for helping bridge educational gaps for children experiencing homelessness grew and advocating for youth and education in the US and in Africa. In her current role, Stephanie oversees a team of volunteer tutors who conduct tutoring sessions online. She will introduce to us SoW and the current tutoring experiences and needs.
