Paolo Veronese (1528-1588) Museo Del PRADO

The Museo Nacional del Prado and the AXA Foundation present the first major monographic exhibition dedicated in Spain to Paolo Veronese, one of the brightest and most admired masters of the Venetian Renaissance.Curated by Miguel Falomir, director of the Prado Museum, and Enrico Maria dal Pozzolo, professor at the Università degli Studi di Verona, the exhibition highlights the pictorial intelligence of a superlative artist capable of illuminating a unique formal universe; an artist with a holistic view of art that encompassed countless aesthetic and cultural references, which he masterfully expressed with great formal and conceptual freedom. He did this during a critical moment for Venice, when religious tensions were rising and the first signs of economic and political decline were evident—symptoms that his brushes skillfully camouflaged, decisively contributing to the visual representation of the "myth of Venice" that has persisted to this day. Like all great artists, Veronese transcended his time. The beauty and elegance of his compositions have captivated collectors and artists for centuries, from Philip IV and Louis XIV to Rubens, Velázquez, Delacroix, and Cézanne.
