Sonning: a village and civil parish on the River Thames, east of Reading.
We will reach the Sonning Bridge, which links Sonning with Sonning Eye (Oxfordshire). It is a brick arch bridge completed in Protected content , that replaced a former wooden bridge. Sonning Bridge has been the subject of many paintings and prints by artists and is a Grade II listed building.
The Mill at Sonning is a theatre and restaurant, converted from a circa- Protected content mill on earlier foundations, on an island in the River Thames at Sonning Eye.
The Bull Inn, also known as The Bull, is an historic public house, restaurant and hotel in Sonning, which dates from the late 16th century.
We will meet at the Reading train station promptly at 11:45 pm in front of the Three Guineas, for a 60 minutes walk to Sonning Road Bridge and have a drink/lunch at The Bull, after visiting The Mill at Sonning and return to Reading Centre (train station) at approx. 4:00 pm.
Alternatively, we might head to Thames Lido, the result of a 3-year restoration project of the Edwardian Kings Meadow Baths. It first opened to the public in Protected content the Ladies Swimming Bath. With no windows giving onto the pool itself, it was built to allow Edwardian women to bathe in privacy. The pool was closed to the public in Protected content October Protected content .
