A TCK (Third culture kid ) is an acronym used to refer those who were raised in a culture outside of their so-called 'native' culture for a significant part of their development years. The experience of being a TCK is unique in that these individuals are moving between cultures before they have had the opportunity to fully develop their personal and cultural identity. TCKs may move on physically from their once homes, but the memories, sounds and tastes remain...and follow us for a lifetime.
As TCK, we also have diverse taste buds... And foods that we have had to leave behind as we moved on to other cultures.
In this activity, we will be getting together -online- to share with other tcks that one dish that you just cannot out of your heart and soul...And that you miss in your current country.
You may cook the dish at home and share the recipe with us, along with its cultural ties to you. OR, even more fun to watch, find a video of it being prepared...And share it with us.
As a tri-cultural TCK who has lived in six countries, I (Melis) have quite a few dishes that I miss...but that I just can't find here in Turkey... Saudi Shawarma and real (sorry, not the imitations here!) brownies, tiramisu and halawat'al jibn....... : )
Find yours, and join us @ Protected content to share and reminisce...
Upon interest, we can then create a playlist to keep as a reference.. 🥐🧀🍔🌯🍲🍪🍜🍺
