Casting Stones: Clerics and Working Girls in the Convent
This lecture has been organised in co-operation with the Association of International Women in Malta.
Dr Christine Muscat, bestselling author of Magdalene Nuns Protected content Public Women Protected content , will deliver a talk on ‘flesh and blood stories’ of some prostitutes who faced landmark choices, decisions and conflicts in facing religious dissidence and damnation. Striving for balance in life was their goal. Reaching that goal was a challenge. Despite variations in circumstances, self-doubt, striking a balance between work and family, and conflicts between personal and professional life still afflict many women in the world today and are very much in force.
Christine Muscat holds a PhD from the University of Malta.
She currently lectures at the International Institute of Baroque Studies, University of Malta and the Institute of Tourism Studies. Her research concerns the social history of early modern Malta, with a special focus on female life.
