Matisse & Bonnard - dialogue in art
Henri Matisse and Pierre Bonnard are considered two of the most famous representatives of French modernism. For both color was an end in itself - a way of experiencing the world. Matisse used pure hues and the white of exposed canvas to create a light-filled atmosphere in his Fauve paintings. Color was so important to Bonnard that when he had mixed a color that was particularly to his liking, he would even go back and touch up other paintings with that color... What other features, subjects or facts of the friendship between two artists opens the new exhibition in Städel Museum? Could be pretty interesting :))
