Perhaps you have recently read about Uyghurs, an ethnic Turkic people from East Turkestan, (also known as Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in China). We have a unique opportunity to learn a bit about their history and culture from Mukaddas Mijit, a renown Uyghur dancer, filmmaker and ethnomusicologist based in France ( Protected content ).
As a dancer, Mukaddas has performed internationally. She has also collaborated with numerous performers to create traditional based Central Asian works of song and dance. As a filmmaker she made several ethnographic documentary films about Uyghur music and dance. Mukaddas will share some traditional music, contemporary and classical poetry, and videoclips of her (previous) dance performances and then we will have a Q/A with the artist. She is multi-lingual and will be happy to answer your questions in English, French, Mandarin, Uyghur, Turkish, Uzbek, Kazakh or Kirgiz.
This special worldwide event is not to be missed!
