Akawui - Latin American Folk Concert

Akawui offers a performance where the music retraces his journey, punctuated by the key moments of his life. Each musical and scenic element represents embodied memories of his life. Akawui tells his story and, above all, that of his parents. He reinterprets the songs who accompanied them during the dictatorship in Chile until their arrival in Canada as political refugees in Protected content . You will then hear the melodies played in the streets of Montreal with his father, borrowed from emblematic Andean repertoire, which have shaped the musical identity of the artist. Accompanied by Gabriel Evangelista on piano and Matthew Goulet on cello and double bass, the artist presents a rich kaleidoscope of its cultural identity, singing his story in French, in Spanish, in Portuguese and Quechua, accompanied by his pan flutes, pandeiro and a berimbau. Akawui reinterprets Andean and bossa nova, as well as his own tinted compositions of jazz influences and classics of Latin American folklore. This trio explores therefore new musical territories in an intimate setting.
