Stormskerry Maja - English Subbed Finnish Film Set in Åland
A Finnish historical drama film, shown with English subtitles, directed by Tiina Lymi and based on the five-volume series by Anni Blomqvist. Young 17-year-old Maja is married against her will to Åland islands fisherman Janne whom she gradually comes to love and respect. Maja and Janne face challenges and adversities on a remote island in the 19th century, not least the invasion by a foreign navy intent on wresting their little island away from Finland. Together they build a family on a barren inhospitable island.
Logistics: The film starts only 5 minutes after the meeting time so I won't linger in the lobby. I'm in row 5 seat 10 but feel free to sit wherever you like.
