Topping Ice Cream With Culture?!

Hi all!! Let's kick off our language and culture exchange with ice-creams!!
Did you know that the story of ice-creams has roots in Persia with Persian Sharbat and ended up in Sicily as the Sicilian Sorbetto? Yeah, me neither- googled this up to come up with an excuse to discuss languages while eating icecream flavors from around the world - Giving us a not-so-imperfect segue into the topic of cultures and languages.
Join me as we discuss the challenges in learning a new language and/or understanding cultures. Let's share our tips and hardships we faced so we all know we are not alone, and motivate each other to keep learning. (hope, it doesn't turn into a rant against the exceptions in grammar)
Main topic for this discussion - The Greeting:
If someone greets you with a "How are you?" or "What's up?", do you follow up with a long response or would rather keep moving with a smile on your face? Or just ignore? Or something entirely different? In the east, it is not uncommon to hold long conversations and exchanges, but I'd love to understand how much info would you exchange with a stranger. Such small information can help us better understand the culture and improve our language as (in my humble opinion) language and culture are deeply interlinked.
And don't forget to reply to the post in the group - let us know which language you're learning and why?
Looking forward to seeing you all!!
