Opera tells the story of Roman Emperor Titus. Vitellia, is a woman of power, prestige and fame, with strong affection to the Emperor, trying to establish close contacts with him, which should also help her to achieve her goals. However, when Emperor Titus rejects her advances, Vitellia decides to take revenge. Unfortunatelly, Roman patriarch Sekstus, loyal confidant of the emperor Titus, is in passionate love for Vitellia, regardless of friendship, decides to assassinate the Emperor. Tytus's assassination attempt was unsuccessful, the would-be killer was arrested, brought to trial and accused of treason and coup. Emperor Titus with a heavy heart signs the death sentence. However, Titus forgives Sekstus, finally giving the message that he prefers to be gracious, rather than having the death of a friend on his hands.
