First Hike & Barbecue to Welcome the Summer Season in Turku

Let's welcome the summer season the way many Finns do; by taking a brisk nature walk and stopping for a barbecue on the way! We start at the Botanical museum on the Ruissalo island. Ruissalo is the most popular island in Turku for recreation, as it is close to the center and easy to reach by public transport (bus no 8 from the Market Square), as well as your own car. This is a perfect place to enjoy the fresh spring air and see the first green leaves and blossoms. The idea is to walk to a barbecue spot. We have fire wood with us (prepare to chip in for a couple of euros) and a traditional fireplace coffee pot! You should bring whatever easy barbecue food you prefer. For example sausages, vegetables or cheese wrapped in foil are easy to cook on open fire. The whole walk will be about 5 km. You will see nice beaches, a traditional log house café Honkapirtti (a popular stop over for hikers) and beautiful houses. If you want to join us only for part of the hike, that is also possible.
