Hello everyone,
The next event will be held on 2nd November Protected content Protected content

John Ngumi who was our Guest Speaker a few months back received rave reviews. Mike Otieno and I have therefore decided that it’s only fitting that we bring him back to continue where we left off, especially since we did not cover, as many of the topics as we’d have wanted to cover
Mr. John Ngumi who is married with three children, is a household name for those in the investment industry, not only because he has been in it for a long time, but also the fact that he has been the driver in some of the biggest deals in the country and the east Africa region, which literally changed the landscape of the investment industry and the economies of the EA region at large. These include:
 Joint Mandated Lead Arranger role for the Republic of Kenya’s debut US$ Protected content syndicated loan
 Joint Lead Arranger role for the Republic of Kenya’s debut US$ 2 billion Eurobond issue (subsequently increased via a tap issue to US$ 2.75 billion); this is the largest ever debut Eurobond issue by any Sub Saharan sovereign
 Sole Arranger for the Republic of Tanzania’s debut US$ Protected content syndicated loan.
 a debut USD Protected content Eurobond mandate for PTA Bank, the first such issue from any East African entity

When we asked Mr. Ngumi, which deals in his illustrious career, were most memorable and had the most impact, this is what he had to say;
“. The first Safaricom bond issue, KES 4bn in Protected content . Not only was it the largest at that time, and not only did it pioneer features that are now standard for bond issues; it also helped set the platform for the mobile industry revolution. Financing Safaricom in KES was radically different from what had happened with Kencell, and with other operators elsewhere in Africa. This helped Safaricom zoom from a 16,000 subscriber base to where it is now, and set a pattern for local currency financing across Africa

the second was Faulu Kenya Limited KES 500m bond in Protected content . This was the first ever bond issue in Africa, and the second worldwide, for a microfinance entity, and it helped bring down that entity's lending rate by more than 10%, thereby directly benefiting the poorest of the poor. Linking the poorest with capital markets was definitely a fantasy thing to do”
Mr. John Ngumi has also been on many boards including KPC (Kenya Pipeline Company) and Muthaiga Country Club where he holds the role of chairman. We will leave it to John to further give a brief self-introduction.

John will present on the topic;

Kenya: Business OUTLOOK for the next five years.

The sub-topics will include but not limited to:
• Economy
• Currency
• Political Outlook
• Tourism
• Sectors to watch
• Nairobi as a Business hub.
• Any Other matter?

Mr. Ngumi has indicated that he prefers more Q&A and less lecturing so, please forward your questions and include your name & company you work for, to allow him time to prepare clear and concise answers, to as many of the questions as possible.

This is an event not to be missed by any member of the group who aspires to grow their Kenyan business to the next level or to scale the heights that John has in his career.
Mike and I look forward to hosting you on the day where we can network further.
