A Night at the Theatre : Las Amargas Lagrimas De Petra Von Kant

Petra von Kant, a successful fashion designer who has just separated from her second husband, lives with her secretary Marlene—her assistant and almost a slave. When one of her closest friends introduces her to Karin, a young opportunist from a humble background, Petra falls madly in love with her and promises to turn her into an international model. The two women then embark on a tumultuous relationship.
The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant—feverishly written during a flight between Berlin and Los Angeles and premiered in Protected content to the most brilliant period of Rainer Werner Fassbinder's career. The play, which was adapted into a film the following year, was praised by international critics for its stylised portrayal of romantic disillusionment in a purely female universe. The German playwright, who revitalised Brechtian heritage through American melodrama, brings out all his creative arsenal to explore loneliness and domination in this sapphic love story, built on ellipses and silences.
Rakel Camacho adapts and directs this European classic with a bold, image-rich approach, shedding new light on themes of power dynamics, obsessive love, and the toxic need to see ourselves accepted through the eyes of others.
The play stars renowned Spanish actress Ana Torrent.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE PLAY IS ENTIRELY IN SPANISH.
