Tour of Chateau Saint Sixte (Private and in English)
The owner will show us around and point out the features in English. This is a private tour for InterNations. Now classified as a Historic Monument, the Château Saint Sixte is part of Lorraine's remarkable heritage. Located in the heart of nature and on the banks of the Nied in Moselle, its composite architecture is unique and its history rich! We will have a private tour in English. Afterwards lunch in a nearby restaurant with the opportunity to visit another monument on the way back to Luxembourg.
We will meet in Protected content at 10:30 and car sharers are encouraged to come forward,
The castle was built mostly with locally sourced pink sandstone, but in some parts, a stone "resembling Jasper marble" was used, such as is found in the Lunéville region, suitable for carving but easily eroded by the weather because of the gypsum it contains.
Originally, the steeply sloping roofs were covered with slates and then partly with mechanical tiles.
The castle, with its curious oval plan, was in fact divided into six bodies grouped around a rectangular courtyard. The choice pieces of the courtyard facades are the three corner towers North-West, South and South-East on which all the decoration has taken refuge (the North-East tower was replaced in the eighteenth century by a stairwell). They are hexagonal in plan, covered to the northwest and south with spires and to the southeast with an imperial roof.
