Creative Encounters: Ura Matsuri

Free Event - no ticket required.
Make noise, not waste! Ura Matsuri invites you to immerse yourself in Japanese music and use recycled materials to make your own instruments.
reative Encounters is your creative space in the heart of the city, bringing together Londoners old and new for live performance, making and conversation.
Start your evening with a performance from Yuko Tsubame, singing and playing the Sanshin – a traditional Japanese instrument from Okinawa. Let her sounds inspire you to create your own ‘Bin-struments’, musical instruments from recycled materials, with the Ura Matsuri collective.
The National Poetry Library provides an array of poems from top ESEA poets, and together we weave together music, poetry and trash!
Ura Matsuri is a one-day festival, showcasing both world-leading and emerging artists from the East and South East Asian diaspora. The performers work in various disciplines and there is a particular focus on women artists.
Yuko Tsubame is a London-based singer and musician who plays Sanshin. Tsubame has cultivated a song repertoire and style that really goes places, from Minyo – Japanese folk – to jazz and rock.
