international shipping - BK to OZ (Beijing)

hello all, i'm looking for some help on shipping a dive computer (not in it's original box) to OZ - China post has refused it , they indicate electronics that are not in their original packaging are suspect with customs officials.

has anyone had experience and success with international shipping and can lend some insight to something that is normally so very simple elsewhere in the world ?
