SSN to BBVA (Bogotá)

Does any US citizen here have an account with BBVA? Has BBVA or any other bank asked you for your social security number recently? I know there is a renewed effort between USA and Colombia to prevent tax evasion, so banks should be asking for our SSN. My question is more HOW the bank asked you for it.

BBVA sent me a text through WhatsApp. Told me to either provide my SSN or renounce my US citizenship. Protected content am not going to give my SSN over WhatsApp text. I would expect there to be an official form. 2) That an alternative would be to renounce my citizenship is intolerably offensive to me.

I have confirmed with the branch manager that this text is legitimately coming out of the bank. I called the customer service number to ask what the standard procedure should be, but the representative had no idea and said I should contact my branch.

Anyone...your experience and your suggestions?
