Favorite Bordeaux Neighborhoods

Hello! Over the next few weeks I'll be 'scouting' Bordeaux and visiting neighbourhoods in the hopes that my mom (who now lives in San Diego) will find the perfect place to retire. My mom is incredibly active and social, and enjoys the arts, travel, and enjoying glasses of wine on sunny terraces :) She's looking for a reasonably-priced flat with a garden, and we have a timeline of approximately two years before she relocates.

I'd be very interested in learning from the InterNations Bordeaux community about what neighbourhoods you would recommend we look into and get to know better. The joys of discovering a new city await us!
