Let's meet in our usual place to come together for some mingling and some information about the historic events on 9 October 1989 in Leipzig and GDR then join the thousands of visitors at the festival of lights around 6.30pm
The so called "silent revolution" in Germany took place in 1989 and it finally let to the reunification of the divided German states, DDR and BRD, in 1990 a movement that started in Leipzig... right where we are!

Let us meet and walk through festive atmosphere and visit all the light installations in the city centre.
At the Nikolaichurch, the official city event kicks off already at 5pm with the "Rede zur Demokratie" and 35 years after the reunification new monument will be build in Leipzig.
Please be aware that the whole city will be the "stage" and tram line will NOT be able to pass through. Please consider more travel time and check schedules particularly for that 09.10.2025.
