Invitation to teen club career day-October 25th (Gaborone)

The Botswana-Baylor Children’s Clinical Centre of Excellence (COE) is a public-private partnership between the Government of Botswana and the Baylor College of Medicine’s Baylor International Paediatric AIDS Initiative (BIPAI). Since Protected content , the COE has provided free-of charge, state-of-the-art paediatric HIV care, treatment, and support to children throughout Botswana. Currently over 4,000 Batswana children receive care, treatment and support at the COE’s main clinic or at one of its outreach and mentorship sites.

As a result of the success at the COE, more and more HIV positive children are progressing into adolescence. In response to this growing dynamic population, the COE designed Teen Club—a psychosocial support program for HIV-positive adolescents that aims to create a safe space for the teenagers to bond with their peers, while teaching them important life skills and building self-esteem. Teen Club topics range from community service to genetics, from the effects of drugs and alcohol to a teen-led talent show. Through a combination of structured activities, peer mentorship and adult role-modelling, Teen Club aims to empower teenagers to live happy, healthy, fulfilling lives, and to encourage them to maintain good medication adherence. Each month, around Protected content positive youth gather at the COE for Teen Club.

The topic of Teen Club for October Protected content Career Day. The Adolescent Services department is looking for a range of engaging and empowered professionals to join our Teen Club Career Day. In the hopes of inspiring our youth, we are seeking skilled employees whose jobs are interactive and interesting. We are especially interested in extending an invitation to those who can physically bring something to their presentation to better explain or demonstrate their career. For example, artists could bring pieces of their art, or construction artisans could bring sample materials from buildings,etc.

For this reason, the Adolescent Services department at the Botswana-Baylor Centre of Excellence is respectfully requesting the support of our volunteers to assist in the recruitment of participants for Career Day. If you or someone you know is well suited to the above specifications, please contact us. Activities will run from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm, at which point participants are more than welcome to join us for lunch.
