Cell phone from the US in HK? (Hong Kong)

Hi! I'm about to move to Hong Kong in late October. My current iPhone is on its last legs and I'd love to get the new iPhone 6 now that it has come out. However, what I can't figure out is whether I can buy it here in the US and use it for the next 6 weeks, then bring it to Hong Kong and switch it over to a carrier there. Is that possible to do?

I am guessing the answer is no, but I haven't been able to definitely find that information online.
