Food budget for Hong Kong

Hi all,

My daughter will be spending the Spring semester (Jan to May) in Hong Kong as part of a junior-year-abroad program. She normally goes to the Univ. of NC-Chapel Hill in the US. While in HK, she will stay in a school dorm equipped with some cooking facilities. I encourage her to cook her own food - it's healthier and less expensive than eating out.

My question is: what would be an average monthly grocery budget for HK, if one sticks to cooking simple meals? Sort of a middle ground between caviar and plain rice... I plan to give her an allowance for food while she's in HK, hence my question. Thanks for any info you can provide.

I was in HK in Protected content a few days for a business trip, and absolutely loved the place. I hope my daughter will like it, too.
