Police - new bribe scheme (La Paz)

When you are down town in Santa Cruz and driving with international driving license be aware of the police at the traffic light. They stop cars some times to check for driving license. As law stands at the time of publishing this post an expat permanently living in Bolivia has 3 month from date of arrival to obtain bolivian driving license. However, this police when they stop you tell you that if you are driving a car with bolivian number plate you only have a month and a half to obtain a driving license and you cant drive with international driving license. When you ask them for a ticket they will tell you that they do not have a paper with them to write a ticket. Apparently the fine for not having a valid license is Protected content but they will ask for about Protected content be paid on the spot.
