Moving to Manchester

Hi all,
although my profile says I am currently living in Manchester, I haven't actually arrived yet. I will be going to England in May but will be settling in Manc after I do a little tour of Europe so hope to be there mid - end of June. I am hoping to live central near Northern Quarter but don't know anyone or anything other than what google tells me haha. Any pointers with what I need to know about the city? Pros? Cons? etc.

Would love to hear opinions :)
