IKURU Project - Empowering Women Through Colours (Maputo)

I would like to share some information about the IKURU Project Mozambique:

"IKURU is an ethical fashion label based in Pemba, Mozambique that uses beautiful African print fabrics for its designs. We are a small team with a big dream. IKURU means "strength" in the local language, and empowering women through fashion is at the heart of the IKURU Project. Founded in Protected content a social enterprise, IKURU empowers women from vulnerable backgrounds by investing in professional training, creating job opportunities and providing social & health benefits at work. We believe that providing fair work opportunities and benefits not only profits the women, but their communities as well.
Our designs blend the colourful fabrics that are intrinsic to the lives of women across Africa with a modern style to create two trendy women’s lines, a prêt-a-porter collection and a Designer’s collection. In addition, we have created fun and simple kids’ and men’s lines. By fusing African prints with Western styles, we hope to bridge both worlds, and connect them with one another through our handmade clothing, each garment signed by the seamstress who made it. IKURU believes that as consumers, we can make a difference through our choices. Your support helps to bring about positive change in this community. We hope you love your IKURU product as much as we do. Kuchukuro and thank you."
