Recommended suburbs in Melbourne

Hi all,
Me and my family are looking to make the move to Melbourne in a year's time which means I need to start applying for child care for kids from now to guarantee a spot. My twins will be almost 4 years by Jan Protected content school year starts). However, to do this I need to know what areas are best to live in.
I am looking for a family friendly neighbourhood that has good facilities such as schools, parks, shopping, public transport but also a neighbourhood that has mixed ethnicity. I would like to be with diverse nationalities as well as Australians of course!
