Downsides of a Green Card (Miami)

Hi,
I am thinking of applying for a green card but have heard that once you get one, your overseas property is taxed big time and you are liable to complete tax returns for the rest of your natural life, even if you return to your mother country.
I have trawled the web with no real result and would really like to get real advise on this if anyone has any?
