Quiet area to stay in Montevideo for a short visit

Hallo!

We plan to visit Montevideo for Protected content and will appreciate your recommendation about in which part of the city to stay, considering that I have read in many places that the old city is lovely but quite dangerous at night. We are city explorers so we have no problem to stay in non-traditional / non-tourist areas (sometimes they show to be better value for money).

If someone happens to know a reasonable cossy hotel in the recommended area I would very much appreciate it.

I can offer you info about Vienna or anywhere in CEE.
