potential moving to rio-cost of life (Rio de Janeiro)

Hello everyone,
I have recently been offered a job at Rio de Janerio. If I take the job, would be working in a laboratory at the Faculty of Chemistry of the Federal University of Rio. Could anyone please fill me in regarding the cost of life? What is considered a decent salary in Rio in order to live comfortably and rent a one or 2 bedroom appartment in a safe and nice neighbourhood? Plus I dont speak the language. Would that be considered a major problem? Thanks everyone.
