Air pollution? (Shanghai)

Hi there, I'll be moving from Melbourne to Shanghai in February with my partner.

We were wondering exactly how bad the air quality is?

We're following a couple of the air quality monitor blogs/twitter feeds and it's hard to know exactly what the levels mean. What do you do to cope with the air pollution? Masks for outside? Filters for inside? What should we expect?
