Living in Taiyuan

Located in the north of China, Taiyuan is the capital of the country’s Shanxi province. The name ‘Taiyuan’ translates to ‘Great Plains’ whilst it is also known as ‘Bingzhou’ in relation to the city’s past as a part of the Bing Province in Ancient China. Taiyuan has a fascinating history, and expatriates living in Taiyuan will be able to explore some of its most well-known sights, such as the Tianlong Shan Stone Caves which feature sculptures dating back to the Tang dynasty, the Twin-Pagoda Temple whose unique architecture has led to it becoming a symbol of the city, the Chongshan Monastery and many others. The city also offers plenty in terms of parks and open spaces, and expats living in Taiyuan will also be able to soak up the city’s culture as well as the local cuisine, featuring the best known noodle cuisine in China.

Moving to Taiyuan

The cost of living in Taiyuan is low and those working in professional jobs will find that their salaries can provide a very comfortable living in the city. Taiyuan has a semi-arid climate, which features long hot summers with colder, but dry winters and most rainfall occurs in the late summer months. The city is located within a major highway area, making travel to nearby cities possible, as well as having its own airport and rail links to Beijing. In terms of education, expatriates moving to Taiyuan with families will find that there are a number of schools and universities in the city as well as various language schools.
