Grande Riviere

A weekend of amazing adventure with dinosaurs and zip lining ;-) !!!!!!

We meet at Superpharm, Maraval for 10:00am where last minute shopping can be done, then we head to Grande Riviere. On the way the 2nd stop to gather troops is at Trincity Mall at 10:45am. The drive from here will take over 2 hours with stretch leg / photo op stops. Once in Grande Riviere we head to a Accommodations

Afternoon we lime, and hit the beach to look for hatching turtles at sun set. They are a ball of energy and super cute!!!. Then we can have dinner and go back to see the moms nesting.
Once fueled up we head down to the beach to search for 65 million year old dinosaurs that spend their entire lives swimming with a brief moment when mothers lay eggs on beaches as this. We will endeavour to see the entire process from arrival, laying to departure. Strict adherence to beach rules will be followed so as to not disturb the turtles. Then back to sleep.

First thing in the morning those who wish can look for turtles that may still be nesting at dawn or for Hatchlings. Its the best time for photos

After breakfast we head to Rio Seco Waterfall, this will be an hour and a half drive.

SUNDAY 24th
RIO SECO WATERFALL + ZIP LINE:

This is a family fun tour that has both easy and adventurous routes with swimming through emerald pools and at a beautiful waterfall and takes us to North East Trinidad, an area of rugged beauty.

Those who have not spent the night in Grande Riviere can meet Sheldon ( Protected content ) at Superpharm Maraval for 8:30am and head east along the highway. As you get further and further from built up areas the forest gets thicker, eventually we reach the coast at Matura. We follow the main road until we cross the Rio Seco River then turn left driving along a country road deep into the rain forest. Total drive is about an hour and a half each way.

Both parties (from Maraval and Grande Riviere) will meet at the trail head

The traditional hike is relatively easy and takes a little over and hour each way through beautiful rainforests. The trail can be quite muddy at times, which makes it fun, and passes through the unique and wondrous Mora Rainforest. The adventurous will dive into pools, climb cascades following a picturesque river. Here you will be introduced to the marvels of rainforests. Our effort is rewarded when we arrive at the Rio Seco Waterfall a gorgeous thirty-foot Waterfall with a large deep pool at its base, perfect for a swim to refresh you. The adventurous can climb the waterfall and jump off the top. All along the way you will learn about the Natural and Human History of the area.

Once at the waterfall we will set up the zip line and..... whhheeeeeeeeeeeeee .... splashhhhhhhh........ grinnnnnnnn!!! LOL

NOTES:

The hike is very easy and will take about an hour each way. Bring enough food and drink for not less than that duration and picnic at the waterfall.

Long pants are not needed.
Any reasonable hiking sneakers or shoes are fine

If it rains everything will get wet so bring phones / cameras in dry bags and/or triple zip loc bags

Kids are highly encouraged to join this hike, my son first did it at 2 years old and I have hiked with kids in a back pack.

Make sure you leave a dry change of clothes and towel in the car to change into for the drive home!

Price is TT$175 per person if you are just doing the Sunday trip, family discounts for kids are available.
