Possible move to the US with pet in tow (Washington, D.C.)

Hey guys,

My partner and I may be making the jump over the pond for work purposes within the next year. I was wondering if anyone would be able to offer any information on relocating animals over to the US. We currently have 1 cat, and she has a pet passport for to travel around the EU, but we were not sure if that applies to the US also.

Any info/links will be greatly welcomed, as we really dont want to have to consider the option of leaving her behind.
