Cities/places that surprised you with their beauty

Dear all,
When we went on a roundtrip through the north of Germany last year, my boyfriend and I decided to have a look at Flensburg, the northernmost city of Germany, just because it IS the northernmost city (except for Westerland on Sylt), so we could say “We’ve been there.”
We were really surprised at how beautiful it is there and were quite sad we had to leave again so early..
Did anything of the sort happen to you? You didn’t expect much of a city or place and you ended up loving it?
