Fuzhou - Unmarried Canadian couple

My partner and I are not married and planning to move to Fuzhou, China where he will be working and where the company will be sponsoring him. I know that I will need to obtain a visa to enter the country and I need to obtain a residence permit after I arrive. I am wondering if anyone has information on any restrictions for unmarried spouse wanting to get a residence permit? I have seen online that tolerances vary depending on the municipality (location/city).....
