Four in 10 people in Britain live in 'unacceptable homes'

Lack of space, damp and spiralling payments are just some the reasons why one in four households in Britain are living in homes that aren't acceptable, says Shelter.

The housing charity says many houses are failing to meet its Living Home Standard.

The government says housing is an absolute priority and it is doubling the affordable housing budget to £8bn. Esmee Woolcomb and her husband Ian live in a one-bedroom flat in Bristol that doesn't meet Shelter's guidelines.
