Honolulu, HI, United States (4E) – Scientists have denied reports on the Internet that dangerously radioactive ocean water from Fukushima were detected in California beaches as they predicted that such seawater could reach the area only by April.

Ken Buesseler, a scientist at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in Massachusetts, said on Monday that the seawater contaminated by the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant damaged in the March Protected content and tsunami is not yet in California coast based on test results of ocean waters collected all over the West Coast.

Buesseler also said that the radioactivity level of contaminated seawater expected to reach California’s coast is low to endanger human health.

Buesseler said volunteer monitors are watching for traces of cesium Protected content are formed in nuclear accidents.

Buesseler presented his findings during a meeting of scientists at the American Geophysical Union’s Ocean Sciences Meeting in Honolulu, Hawaii on Monday. The meeting tackled problems in the Pacific Ocean caused by the offshore earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan in Protected content .
