Hey friends, I hope it's ok to post about this here... I've got myself a car and am heading out soon on a road trip from Lima to Rio de Janeiro, about Protected content . This is the route: Protected content

Anyone want to join, for part or all? Going that way anyway? I've got two or three spots available. (Sorry for the short notice— I just discovered this group!)

* When:
I'm flexible on leaving Lima — could be this Saturday 11th, Sunday 12th, Monday 13th. Could also pick you up / drop off at Arica, Chile around Tuesday or Wednesday. Or at San Pedro de Atacama around Wednesday/Thursday. Next major point is Asuncion, Paraguay, which we'd hit around the 18th/19th. Then to Iguazu Falls for the 20th or 21st, and Curitiba in Brazil around 22nd/23rd. Aiming to arrive in Rio by the 24th, in time for the start of Carnaval. ... I don't plan to make it a crazy blitz. Keeping the drive time to Protected content per day, and never driving at nighttime. Hopefully also including a full rest day or two.

* What:
Somewhat flexible on details, but am thinking of a few key sights along the way... The Nazca Lines in southern Peru. Volcanoes and the Atacama desert, in Chilean mining country. Maybe taking a day's break to explore a little town in northwest Argentina, like Salta or Jujuy. Maybe camping around a national park in north Argentina. A day or two of rest in Asunción, the sleepy capital of Paraguay — bring something nice for church :):) Of course, Iguazu Falls. The Oscar Neimeyer museum in Curitiba. Let's say... quick lunch in São Paulo? And finally, Rio.

In terms of accommodations, I'd assume the group can decide for each place whether to find a Couchsurfing spot, an Airbnb, hostel, or inn.

* Next:
DM me for more details, like the passport rules and visas you might need for certain countries. I'm doing the math on what the gas split will cost, but I don't think it'd be more than $30 USD each per day. (Am imagining we ride comfortably with a group of 4, leaving an open seat in case we need to pick up a stranded goat or something.) ... Ideally, looking for experienced travellers or civilized optimists only.
