THE 3 MOST IMPORTANT INSIGHTS IN YOUR FIELD?

The more expertise that we develop in our respective professional fields, the greater our ability to condense vast amounts of knowledge into nuggets of wisdom or principles becomes.

As there is such an abundance of wisdom and diverse experiences in this group, I think this might be a great forum to share specific insights and learnings from our respective backgrounds that will transcend borders and enhance the lives of other members of this community. (It’s kind of akin to a mentor sharing insights and learnings with a mentee.)

To keep it simple, answer this question:

“Generally speaking, what do YOU believe are the 3 most important principles in your industry?”

I will go first:

I have a 20 year background in Professional Speaking and Health and Wellness, so here are my 3 nuggets for each:

Wellness:

1. The best exercise program for you is the one you will consistently do. So find a physical activity that you enjoy, and make that the core of your exercise

2. Any diet will work as long as you stick to it and it follows the general idea of consuming less energy than you expend. So pick one that you will enjoy and stick to it.

3. Eliminating things from your life is often a much simpler and quicker way to become healthier than adding something new. For example: Become less stressed by eliminating some toxic people from your life rather than trying find time to add a stress management prescription to your already busy schedule

Public Speaking:
1. Whether you're speaking to 1 person or 100, the approach is exactly the same. Be yourself, speak in a conversational tone, and apply specific tactics from fields like public speaking, acting, and social psychology to amplify your message

2.
Don’t be so nervous about forgetting what you're going to say during a presentation. The audience has no idea what you're going to say in the first place

3. The most important step in making a speech or a presentation is to first figure out who your audience is and, imagine yourself in their shoes thinking “what’s in it for me?”, and build from there.

I would love to hear nuggets of wisdom from your occupations and experiences.
