what is real? life or death?

yesterday I was at a funeral, I put the dead body of one of my relatives into the soil with my own hands. At that moment, a question came into my mind? Are we really living or dying? if the last say if for death, so what is the meaning of life? what is that we are all trying to get? are we really able to have the audacity of asking these questions to ourselves? what is real, life or death?
