SPANISH BAROQUE OPERA: Andromeda and Perseus
"Premiered in Protected content the Coliseo del Buen Retiro, Andrómeda y Perseo constitutes one of the foundational milestones of Spanish musical theatre. This mythological fable brought together the greatest minds of the court—playwright Pedro Calderón de la Barca, stage designer Baccio del Bianco, and likely composer Juan Hidalgo—in an ambitious undertaking to celebrate the recovery of Queen Mariana of Austria. This revival restores to the stage a work of immense symbolic richness, in which Calderón's libretto unfolds a complex web of meanings and allegories. This dramaturgical version condenses its spectacular Baroque staging into an essential theatrical language that speaks to the audience's imagination. With this production, the Chamber Musical Theatre format ventures for the first time into 17th-century stage repertoire."
