VIJF (i.e. Vancouver International Jazz Festival) is back again, Jun 20th-Jul 1st, marking its 40th yr anniversary!
Music lovers that follow this genre, know that'Jazz' spans a variety of musical styles, from Dixiland & Big Band jazz, to Soul, Funk, Blues, World Music, modern, Fusion, etc. so there is something for everyone; many of them play for free or PWYC (=pay-what-you-can)
The Festival is mostly held d/t, & various Granville Island venues, but also in various clubs/restaurants, as well as on the North Shore (=North Van).
At 1 pm, we'll enjoy TERESA MARIE AND THE THREE... Here's what they say:
“The Three” (pianist Ben Sigerson, bassist Wynston Minckler, and drummer Tyler Murray), Vancouver-based vocalist Teresa Marie finds magic in soulful interpretations of the Great American Songbook. For this show, the band is joined by Jennifer Scott, one of Teresa’s mentors from Capilano University’s Jazz program. Lauded as “an important Jazz Voice” by the San Jose Journal, Scott has been nominated for JUNO & Jessie Awards & sung with jazz greats like Jon Batiste, Clark Terry, Tommy Banks, & Kenny Wheeler."
Here's a sample of their music:
