The Symphony No. 9 in E minor, "From the New World", Op. 95, B. Protected content Symfonie č. 9 e moll „Z nového světa“), popularly known as the New World Symphony, was composed by Antonín Dvořák in Protected content he was the director of the National Conservatory of Music of America from Protected content 1895. It is by far his most popular symphony, and one of the most popular of all symphonies.

Má vlast (Czech pronunciation: [maː vlast], meaning "My homeland" in the Czech language) is a set of six symphonic poems composed between Protected content Protected content the Czech composer Bedřich Smetana. While it is often presented as a single work in six movements and – with the exception of Vltava – is almost always recorded that way, the six pieces were conceived as individual works. They had their own separate premieres between Protected content 1880; the premiere of the complete set took place on 5 November Protected content Žofín Palace, Prague, under Adolf Čech.

In these works Smetana combined the symphonic poem form pioneered by Franz Liszt with the ideals of nationalistic music which were current in the late nineteenth century. Each poem depicts some aspect of the countryside, history, or legends of Bohemia.

The Bamberg Symphony (German: Bamberger Symphoniker - Bayerische Staatsphilharmonie) is a German orchestra based in Bamberg. The orchestra was formed in Protected content from German musicians expelled from Czechoslovakia under the Beneš decrees, who had previously been members of the German Philharmonic Orchestra of Prague. The orchestra received the title of Bayerische Staatsphilharmonie (Bavarian State Philharmonic) in Protected content . The orchestra commemorated its 60th anniversary on 16 March Protected content .

Since Protected content , the home of the orchestra is the Konzert- und Kongresshalle (Concert and Congress Hall). In September Protected content , Jakub Hrůša became the fifth Chief Conductor of the Bamberg Symphony. Herbert Blomstedt was named honorary conductor of the orchestra in March Protected content . Christoph Eschenbach became honorary conductor of the orchestra in Protected content .

The orchestra is associated with the triennial Gustav Mahler Conducting Prize, established during Nott's tenure, and the first competition laureate in Protected content Gustavo Dudamel.
