This is one movie I have been dying to watch for a long time, especially since I have visited the locations in Belfast where the 'Troubles' took place.

Both a happy and sad reminder of conflict and war, something that we are seeing today again unfortunately.

Belfast is nominated for 7 Oscars and might even win Best Picture!

Nine-year-old Buddy lives in the north of Belfast. There he grows up in a working-class family and feels at home in his neighborhood, where he knows everyone. However, his world is turned upside down when the riots in Ireland escalate in Protected content . Friends become enemies, there are assaults and physical confrontations between Catholics and Protestants.

The Troubles in Northern Ireland between Protestants and Catholics, which brought war-like destruction to the country, and the resulting emigrations provide the narrative framework in a story Branagh tells from the perspective of nine-year-old Buddy, based on his own memories. In this way, he manages to combine the complexity and gravity of the subject with lightness and innocence, and so the everyday, the funny and the completely normal, such as falling in love for the first time, school lessons or a visit to the cinema, also find their place. In addition to a great and top-class cast, especially Jamie Dornan and Caitriona Balfe, Ciarán Hinds and Judi Dench as parents and grandparents, as well as an outstanding ensemble of supporting actors.
