High Mountain Hike at Libro Aperto
Dear group,
let's escape Florence superhot temperatures by climbing the Apennines up to almost Protected content !
The Libro Aperto (Open Book in English) is a mountain range formed by two peaks, so named because when viewed from the Lima valley it resembles a large open book resting on a lectern.
The first part of the trail is a pleasant walk through the beautiful fir forest, quickly reaching the wooded summit of Monte Maiori ( Protected content ), and then descending to a pass known as 'foce della Verginetta' where there is also a refuge.
From here, the ascent begins, following the border between the Grand Duchies of Tuscany and Modena, amidst fields of blueberries and with a wide view of the entire Apennine ridge.
We will reach a max altitude of over Protected content !
Here's some characteristics of the excursion:
Total length: about 11.5 km
Total climb altitude: Protected content
Expected duration: 5 hrs
Difficulty level: medium\difficult
Duration: day trip, packed mid-day lunch.
Required equipment:
Suitable dressing for the weather forecast, trekking shoes, water 1.5L min, hiking poles recommended.
Carpooling will be attempted to reach the starting point of the hike but seats for everybody cannot be guaranteed.
Therefore, please consider using your own mean of transportation to reach the starting point; I'd be really grateful if you can offer seats to other participants!
Pls send me a private message to let me know if you need a lift and to provide your Whatsapp contact.
