The Highest Village in the Apennines
Dear group,
it's still hot enough to get the feeling to escape Florence plain and climb a mountain.
This is an invitation to run a hiking loop on the ridge between Tuscany (Lucca) and Emilia-Romagna (Modena).
We will start from an ancient village (San Pellegrino in Alpe), located along one of the Medieval pilgrimage routes.
The local church hosts the relics of Saints Pellegrino and Bianco, who lived as hermits on the mountains during Late Antiquity.
A challenging ascent will lead us to the ridge, and we will then walk until we reach a steep descent through a luscious forest.
We'll then reach the Rifugio Burigone, where a refreshing stop will recharge us for the final part of the hike: a mild ascent on dirt road back to San Pellegrino.
Here's some characteristics of the excursion:
Total length: about 10 km
Total climb altitude: Protected content
Expected duration: Protected content
Difficulty level: medium\difficult
Duration: day trip, packed mid-day lunch.
Required equipment:
Suitable dressing for the weather forecast, trekking shoes, water 1.5L min, hiking poles recommended.
Carpooling will be attempted to reach the starting point of the hike but seats for everybody cannot be guaranteed.
Therefore, please consider using your own mean of transportation to reach the starting point; I'd be really grateful if you can offer seats to other participants!
Pls send me a private message to let me know if you need a lift and to provide your Whatsapp contact.
