Sunday Lunch, Walk and Drinks

This time we will visit Guildford, a town in west Surrey, around 43 km south-west of central London. The name "Guildford" is thought to derive from the Old English gylde, meaning gold and the second part of the name (ford), refers to a crossing of the River Wey, a tributary of the River Thames, that flows through the town centre.

Guildford Castle is thought to have been built by William the Conqueror, after the Norman invasion in Protected content . Used as a Royal Palace, a prison and a private residence, Guildford Castle and grounds was sold to the Guildford Corporation in Protected content .

Stoke Park is Guildford’s largest park. It is an extremely diverse space, and Green Flag award winning. Heritage features that still exist today include the 18th century walled garden, a boating pond or a sensory and a rose gardens.

We will meet at Protected content We will walk towards the Centre and have lunch/drinks at Positano Restaurant or De Nada Tapas. Then will head to the Castle, the Cathedral, and Stoke Park.

Later, we will head back to the Centre, and have a drink &/or dinner at one of the two referred places, Positano or De Nada, depending on the one chosen for lunch, before taking the train back to Reading.
