Alcatraz Swim!

Come join me for my club's swim from Alcatraz! It is a once in a lifetime unique experience I can't recommend enough if you have the skill level. And feel free to sign up and come watch.

This is the largest and most organized Alcatraz swim, with lots of boat and kayak support. This event is only for reasonably confident swimmers, and you will want to swim in the bay a few times to get used to the Protected content F temperatures at that time of year (the warmest time).

Total distance is about 1.25 miles, 1.4 miles of swimming with the current. Note also that we start pretty early. 'Race' check in closes at 6am.

I personally will be focused on swimming a competitive time so I wont be able to escort InterNations attendees as I did in September. But I will prep you, and we will ride the ferry and jump in together. And I'll be there at the end of the swim to make sure you warm up safely.

The cost is $300, but there is an early bird discount of $25 for a few more days (ends Jan 31st). You can wear a wetsuit, and I'd at least recommend a thermal cap. I've found these to be the most comfortable, but you can get cheaper:

I'll organize a few prep swims before hand depending on who shows interest here. I'll teach you a few skills for cold water swimming. And feel free to join those and sign up last minute once you feel confident to go the distance.
